Note from the Editor: Metropolis! The Original cut has been recovered!!

Wow, I was just at Aint It Cool, and found this fantastic information!  The original edit of Fritz Lang's 1927 silent masterpiece Metropolis has been found in Buenos Aires!  It's been considered lost for  about 80 years.  Some estimates suggest that nearly a quarter of the film had been cut.  This is really exciting news for movie buffs.  Check out the articles here and here.

Here are some of the lost images from ZIETmagazin:

As you can see the print isn't in the best condition.  But they'll be able to clean it up considerably, and it'll fill in a lot of plot holes, and (hopefully) develop the characters more sufficiently

For those of you who haven't seen this film, I suggest renting it immediately, it's considered to be the first Sci-Fi film ever made, and it's futuristic sets are breathtaking. Check this out, it's the Robot Transformation Scene!

this is AMAZING news. AMAZING. i'm super excited. we must do a band meeting that has a movie-night component once this print becomes available, so that we can take advantage of this find.
