This Week in Toronto (Jan 15- 21)

Agh, I'm late again!! Ok, so tonight might be a write off... but if anyone reads this right now they can get out and see it.... Here's this week!!

THURS JAN 15

Make Your Organ Dance
at Hugh's Room (2261 Dundas W)

Ok, I saw this band last week at Sneaky Dee's and they were a lot of fun. Kinda dancey, with horns, some good samples etc... could be good if you're looking for something to dance to tonight (I mean other than Lil' Wayne).

FRI JAN 18

Cartoon night at Trash Palace
Cartoons all night long!!! How cool is that?! Trash Palace is still one of my favorite places in the world and every week there is something new and exciting (and ofter ridiculous) to watch. But Cartoons all night? You don't get any better than that.

SAT JAN 17

Olenka and the Autumn Lovers at Rancho Relaxo (300 College St)
Fresh off their sold out CD release party, Olenka et al will be gracing the stage at Rancho Relaxo this Saturday. She's a great writer, singer, and has a great band that I was somehow allowed to play in! But really, her new album is amazing, it made my top 10 of 2008. And now you can pick them up at Sonic Boom, Soundscapes, Rotate This and She Said Boom.

SUN JAN 20

Sex and Violence Cartoon Festival at Cinemforum
incase you didn't get enough cartoons on friday night, Cineforum is showing it's Sex and Violence Cartoon Festival at 7pm. Apparently what happens here is, you get to watch uncensored versions of your old favorites. Some examples are listed on this page.

MON JAN 19

Dr. Strangelove playing at Bloor Cinema (506 Bloor St. W)
Stanley Kubrick's brilliant Satire (and spoof of the also brilliant Fail Safe), is playing at the Bloor. This is a FUNNY film, thanks in large part to the gifted Peter Sellers. Everyone is just a little off their rocker in this film, including one of my favorites, Sterling Hayden. Now's the time to see this film.

TUES JAN 20
Book of Gnomes at Tranzac Club (292 Brunswick Ave) This is a really fine band. Featuring the members of Nick Zubeck's band (including Nick himself), Polyester Heart, Barzin's band and, really, countless other great bands in the city (I'm trying to court some of these guys to play on my album as well... fingers crossed). Anyways, if you like instrumental music that's a little experimental and catchy at the same time, than this is the place for you.

I don't really have anything for Wednesday. Any ideas? If you have any, or comments, questions maybe, please leave them below in the comments section. Peace.
