This Week in Toronto (Jan 29 - Feb 4)

This week looks to be the opposite of last week. I could only find one good show then, but this week is a breeze! Click on the names for music and links... lets get on with it....

THURS JAN29

Birdsacrosswater and Owl Eyes at The Imperial Pub (54 Dundas St. E)
Birdsacrosswater's Nic Lefevbre had 3 entries in my albums/EP's of the year list. Pretty good feat. Come see why tonight at the Imperial Pub right off of Dundas Square. Also, I believe it's a CD release party for Nic. I think this is the CD:

FRI JAN 30

Ronley Teper at Trazac (292 Brunswick Avenue)
I performer I've been meaning to see for quite some time. But alas, I must miss the show again, as I'll be performing in London. But you should check it out, apparently it's a great show. She's been called a female Tom Waits, which is a pretty interesting comparison.

SAT JAN 31

Bruce Penninsula and Tom Fun Orchestra at Horseshoe Tavern (370 Queen Street West)
I fielded a question to a good friend of mine the other day as to what album should I rush out and buy right now. Her answer was Bruce Penninsula... and to imediately go out and see them live. Luckily, I'll be sharing a bill with them the night before, but if they're as good as I'm told, I'll probably be seeing them twice this weekend. Oh, also playing is the very exciting Tom Fun Orchestra from the East Coast. Great double bill.

MON FEB 2

Doug Tielli at Tranzac (292 Brunswick Avenue)
Another staple at the Tranzic is Doug Tielli. Part of the Silt with Ryan Driver, Brother of Rheostatic Martin Tielli, and an all-around talented and engaging musician. I haven't had the oppertunity to see him perform live, so I can't tell you what kind of performance to expect, but that can be an exciting way to see some new music.

for some reason, while looking up photos of Doug Tielli, this came up.

WED FEB 4

Golden Dogs and Major Grange playing at the Dakota Tavern (249 Ossington Avenue)
I saw the Golden Dogs a few years ago playing on a boat. That was cool. They are a high energy band, sound a bit like the Arcade Fire, except poppier. Also playing is Major Grange, who played a surprise set the night I played with William Delray, and man, the new drummer is intense!! This should be an exciting evening.

So if you want to know more about the bands, or hear their music, just click on their names. They're linked to the myspaces. If you have any comments or suggestions, or just want to say hi, please do so in the comments seciton.
