This Week In Toronto

For people looking for something to do this week, I have a few suggestions;

THURS MAY 1

- Silver Apples, Barzin at the Music Gallery (197 John St.) $25 I don't know much about the silver apples, although they're getting a fair bit of hype, but for me Barzin is worth the price of admission

- The Constantines, Castlemusic, Attack in Black at the Pheonix. The Constantines put on a fantastic, energetic show, worth checking out

- Dave Mansell, The Hemingway Solution, The Books Elusive at Smiling Buddha. I've had the pleasure of playing with Dave on a number of occasions, and he's a great up and coming singer songwriter (ask him to play some Bond!!)

- Paths of Glory, The Manchurian Candidate at the Revue Cinema 7 and 9:10 pm. This is a killer double bill, two fantastic anti-war films from two great directors, Stanley Kubrick and John Frankenhiemer.

FRI MAY 2

- Methodology EP release party at the Revival. Looking for a good night of funk and soul? This is the place, a little corny sometimes, but man can this band play!

SAT MAY 3

- Toronto Freedom Festival at Queens park. All day festival about, I don't know, freedom? Just grab a spliff and check out King Sunshine , Chameleon Project and God Made Me Funky. Some funky ass shit.

- The Strip at the Local. Love the Strip, good guys who play some good gypsy folk (with a dash of the Band thrown in for good measure)

- King Sunshine at the Revival. If you miss them at Freedom Festival, check em out at Revival. Killer live house.

-The Wizard of Oz at the Fox Theatre. If you've never seen the Wizard of Oz, then you're probably a raving lunatic.... just sayin.

SUN MAY 4

- The Wizard of Oz at the Fox Theatre. You've got two chances to see it this weekend. Get on it.

TUES MAY 6

- A Streetcar Named Desire at the Fox Theatre. This is where acting changed, everyone in this movie acts.... Brando IS Stanley Kawalski.

WED MAY 7

- Crazy Strings at the Silver Dollar. The best bluegrass in the city, every wed night.

-Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten at the Revue Cinema. A doc on Joe Strummer, what else do you ya need on a wed night?
