This Week in Toronto May 28 - June 3

Hello!! A really nice week of music just passed. The Bob Dylan Tribute show was great. The Timber Timbre show was also great. And Kensington Prairies? Great. Good times. Let's see what this week offers (click links for more info, comment in the comment section below, please).

THURS MAY 28

The Battleship Potemkin and Un Chien Andalou playing at Cinematheque Ontario 7pm
Sergei Eisenstien's brilliant silent classic is a MUST SEE for any cinema buff. It's story of mutiny and the fight against a repressive government is as exciting today as it must have been back in 1925. Pairing it with the Dali/Buenel short Un Chien Andalou is odd... I guess they're both silent... either way they are both essential for anyone who wants to explore the world of cinema.

FRI MAY 29

Apostle Of Hustle CD Release at Music Gallery
I was talking about Apostle of Hustle last night. I always enjoyed their music, but I've never rushed out to see them or get a hold of any of thier CD's. Maybe that'll change with the release of Eats Darkness. If you go, I'd love to hear how it went.

SAT MAY 30

Elton John and Billy Joel
at Air Canada Center
If, in these tough economic times, you have the $70 plus to see a show, you can do worse than this. I'm sure it'll be "Electrifying"... I don't even know if I'm recommending this or not...

SUN MAY 31

Spellbound playing at Cinematheque
Alfred Hitchcock with set designs by Salvador Dali! That's pretty much all you need to know... if you need more, how about a cast that includes Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck? Damn right.

MON JUNE 1

Ron Sexsmith at Hugh's Room
He's one of our finest performers. His music is subtle and sweet, which is a nice change of pace.

TUES JUNE 2

TV on the Radio and Dirty Projectors at Sound Academy
This is one of the main reasons I'm upset that I don't have a job. I can't afford to go to this show. TV on The Radio puts on one of the best shows, but you allready know that. The real excitement will be seeing the Dirty Projectors. This band is amazing, plus they're cozy with David Byrne. Props. If you don't allready, you will soon know the name The Dirty Projectors.

WED JUNE 3

Mr. Something Something at Supermarket
They also just released a new album. And now that the Kensington Prairies resedancy at Grafitties is up, I can finally see someone else on a Wednesday night! Woo Afrobeat!
